Activities and events

At the Šenk’s homestead, in addition to lodging, we also offer you a place to organize events for closed groups who wish to relax in unspoiled nature with accompanying activities offered by the farm environment under the mighty walls of the two-thousand-meter-high peaks in the Kamnik-Savinja Alps.

We organize family celebrations, anniversaries and civil wedding ceremonies. By prior arrangement, we organize the entire event at your request, or we only offer space for rent.

On the farm, you can see the animals of Slovenian indigenous breeds and in the summer time on Thursdays in the afternoon you can try to spin wool on the old spinning wheel. In the summer, you can also rent a mountain bike and ride along lake roads and trails. For those who want to get in touch with the rugged mountains, there are some kits for self-guarding and ferrata climbing, as well as helmets, climbing belts and picks for greater security in our mountains.

In winter time you can make beautiful tours as a ski mountaineer or enjoy cross-country skiing trails around the valley. For those who rather put skates on their feet, lake Planšarsko jezero and artificial skating rink next to it offer pleasant skating polygon.

We offer you a rental of equipment for cross-country skiing, as our farm is surrounded by well-maintained tracks. You can do as much as 15 kilometres in one lap and go cross-country skiing to the heart of the Ravenska Kočna valley.

In the evening, you can get warm in the infrared or Finnish sauna or indulge in the skilful hands of the masseur Luka and get ready for new hiking challenges.

Hiking

Šenk's homestead in Jezersko, which is surrounded by the Kamnik – Savinja Alps on one side and with the Karavanke mountain range on the other, is a real paradise for nature lovers and hikers. Here, all visitors can find something for themselves.

For families with small children, elderly people and anyone that is not a fan of longer hikes, there is a theme trail through the Ravenska kočna valley, equipped with info boards, tables and benches. The theme trail is also accessible with wheelchairs and strollers. It offers beautiful views to the mountain peaks. Peaceful, pleasant and not too steep roads also leads around the farms of Ravenska kočna, to the center of the village, up to the Old church of St. Oswald and from Jezersko pass to Ank Mountain.

For all the detailed descriptions of the strolls mentioned above, please visit link

All enthusiastic hikers, however, can choose from a range of different hiking options. For families and recreational hikers, there are numerous peaks from north and west of Jezersko. They offer shorter and less demanding trails that also takes you to the scenic peaks, just above the forest border. Each of the peaks offers a unique view. Goli vrh, Pristovški Storžič, Virnikov Grintovec and Veliki vrh can be reached on foot from Šenk’s homestead. Stegovnik and less known Kozji vrh are accessible from Spodnje Jezersko, a few minutes ride from our farm.

Detailed descriptions of the mentioned hikes can be found in link

The Kamnik – Savinja Alps offer even more options for easy, short hikes and longer, high – altitude tours. From all the tours mentioned bellow, you can start directly from our homestead. Češka koča – a 120-year-old beauty on Spodnje Ravni, can be a pleasant hike itself, or oly a stop on the way to Grintovec, Kočna and Dolg hrbet. On the neighbouring slope, across Žrelo, stands Kranjska koča na Ledinah, which serves as a rest point for hikers to Skuta, Rinke and Velika Baba.

In both cottages, they offer drinks, traditional food and accommodation. They are also accessible to less experienced hikers. The peaks above them, however, require hikers with good equipment, excellent physical fitness and mountaineering experience. The routes are very difficult, sometimes exposed and equipped with steel cables.

You can read more about the difficult routes in link.

Another mountain, accessible from Jezersko is Storžič, a pyramid peak that rises above Preddvor. The starting point is in Spodnje Jezersko in the Dol – Podstoržič valley.

All the listed peaks are points of the Jezersko mountain trail. If you are planning to visit them all, you can buy the booklet on Šenk’s homestead or in Tourist office.

For adrenaline – seeking experienced mountaineers, there is a secured climbing route – via ferrata, that also takes you to Češka koča. To climb ferrata, hikers need all the usual mountaineering equipment and self – protection ferrata set, which can be borrowed on our homestead.

More details about ferrata Češka koča is on the link.

In winter, Jezersko also attracts hikers and touring skiers.  Some lower, forested peaks are safe for skiing right after the snowfall in real winter conditions. Goli vrh is one of the most popular, because it is one of the safest from avalanches, because it is overgrown with forest. For the steepest and more exposed slopes, the best season is in spring.

In the right winter conditions, two waterfalls, that can be climbed are formed bellow Češka koča – Vikijeva sveča and Sinji slap.

Slovenia Outdoor Association awarded us with the sign Three Hikers. This ranks us among the best accommodations for hikers in Slovenia. The sign means that we have an infrastructure adapted to hikers, that you will get maps and advice about tours, that we can arrange a hike with a mountain guide, we offer you various hiking programs, the possibility of transfer, option for relaxing in saunas after the hike, quality organic food, equipment rental,...

Cycling and mountain biking

Jezersko is known among the people from surroundings as interesting and busy cycling spot, especially in summer months. There are lots of road cyclists that are attracted by winding road in Kokra valley and up to the Jezersko pass.

As Jezersko is a small village, with limited parking spots and most attractions near to each other,  it is  easy and environmentally friendly, to discover it's beauties with bike, even though you are not a dedicated biker.

Our beautiful valley also offers several mountain bike trails. Among the more popular is the ascent to Ovčje koče, via Mlinar pass. The road takes you high above the Kokra valley, from where the view to Storžič is outstanding. In Ravenska kočna, there is a popular bike tour up to the cargo cable car station and Štular Mountain that takes you in the hearth of Kamnik – Savinja Alps.  The next option is, to climb the Jezersko pass and then go off road to Ank Mountain, from where the view is magnificent. Another interesting tour leads you through Spodnje Jezersko into Komatevra valley up to Pečovnik.

On Šenk's homestead we rent mountain bikes.

Outdoor Slovenia Association awarded us with the sign One cyclist. Which means that we are cyclist-friendly accommodation and that we offer the basic infrastructure that is important for cyclist guests.

Sauna and hot tub

For a pleasant relaxation after a demanding hill tour or after a busy week, you will be pampered at the Šenk’s homestead with a sauna, wooden hot tub and a massage. In the basement of our renovated usufruct house, we prepare Finnish and infrared sauna for you. Finnish sauna offers higher temperatures and makes your skin wonderfully soft and gentle with the help of a salt stone vaporizer. The infrared sauna is the right choice for anyone who is not comfortable with the high temperature, but still wants a sauna experience. It is also very suitable for anyone who is suffering from joint pain or had joint surgery. The cosy lounge has access to a wooden patio where the hot tub is located.

Observation of animals of Slovenian indigenous spicies

At the Šenk’s homestead, we breed Slovenian indigenous animal breeds.

Many do not realize that the biodiversity of animal genetic resources is not only reduced by the extinction of animal species, but also significantly reduced by the extinction of the breeds themselves.

In Slovenia, among all Slovenian indigenous breeds of domestic animals, seven breeds have a critical (highest) level of threat (Lipizzan horse, Posavje horse, Slovenian cold-blooded horse, Bovec sheep, Karst sheep, Bela krajina sheep, Drežnica goat), three breeds are endangered (cika cattle, Krškopolje pig, Styrian hen), one breed was assessed as vulnerable (Jezersko-Solčava sheep).

The importance of preserving domestic breeds is also recognized at the Šenk’s homestead. In our pastures, you can also see indigenous cika cows, Jezersko-Solčava sheep, Krškopolje pigs and Styrian hens. For our efforts, we have also obtained an ARK farm certificate. The term "ark" (in the direct translation of the barge, chest) indicates that it concerns preserving and promoting the breeding of native breeds in the local environment. Ark farms and Ark centres represent farms where breeds are preserved and represent a collection - a treasure chest of valuable genetic resources.

The most important in Jezersko is breeding of sheep of the Jezersko - Solčava breed, which our ancestors bred.  We are very proud of them, since one of our ancestors took them to Paris for an exhibition in 1856. You can read more about the sheep here:
http://www.genska-banka.si/pasme/jezersko-solcavska-ovca/.

The next group of animals on our homestead is cika cattle. Cika almost extinct in the past, but now, due to its suitability for our pastures, more and more herds of these animals are appearing in Jezersko. You can read more about the cika cow here:
http://www.genska-banka.si/pasme/cikasto-govedo/.

The third indigenous animal on our farm is Krškopolje pig. Due to their higher fat content, just like cows these pigs have almost disappeared from Slovenian yards. The pigs, which are black and white in colour and suitable for breeding outside, are characterized by high-quality fat and very tasty meat in addition to the ease of breeding. You can read more about the Krškopolje pig here:
http://www.genska-banka.si/pasme/krskopoljski-prasic/.

The last native breed of animals on our farm, however, are Styrian hens. Their major specificity, besides the crest on their heads, are white eggs. They are the beauty of our yard and a pleasure to the children looking for their eggs around the farm. More about the Styrian hen is available at this link: http://www.genska-banka.si/pasme/stajerska-kokos/.

In addition to the indigenous breeds of domestic animals, other chickens, ducks, cats and a guard dogs walk in our yard. The guard dogs names are Archie and his son Medo. They are especially pleased with every visitor to our homestead.

Business tourism

Šenk's homestead is an excellent place for organizing annual coordination, meeting with business partners or team building with colleagues. We have 11 accommodation units with 30 beds and we also offer a pleasant and homely decorated meeting room, where tables, chairs and a large screen (with an HDMI cable) for projections are available. During coordination and meetings, we provide coffee, snacks and meals. Jezersko offers many outdoor activities, which you can  organise on your own or  Park Jezersko prepairs program of activities. A wide range of activities is available in spring and autumn and especially in winter.

In winter, you can choose between 10 different animation options. The surroundings of the Planšar Lake offer the possibility of activities on ice and snow with the spectacular scenery of the Kamnik - Savinja Alps in the background. You can see some examples of programs at the link.

Despite the low snowfall winters that have accompanied us in recent years, we still ensure you can taste at least a little bit of winter pleasure. At the winter center Park Jezersko, at the beginning of the thematic trail, they arrange a 1350-meter running circle with artificial snow. The circle has a height difference of 30 meters and runs on uneven terrain. In addition to running, Jezersko Park also offers sledding and the rental of sleds. Last winter we opened also a small lift for young children and all who want to learn skiing. Read more about the offer on the link.

Cross-country skiing has a long tradition in Jezersko since the Jezersko inhabitants were cross-country skiing and held races long before alpine skiing. In fact, of all winter activities, we have the most suitable conditions and terrain for cross-country skiing, as with the right amount of snow you can run across all the meadows on the flat part of Zgornje Jezersko, from Planšar Lake to the end of the valley at the tourist farm Ancel. Seventeen kilometres of carefully maintained trails in the valley of Ravenska Kočna have convinced and delighted many running gourmets in recent years. Ski moutaineering

Jezersko is the cradle of Slovenian ski moutaineering and alpinistic skiing, the family Karničar started that tradition in the 1980s. The voice of Jezersko ski mountaineering was carried into the world by Davo Karničar, the first human ever skiing from Mt. Everest in 2000. His brother Drejc, Polona's husband, was written in the ski moutaineering history by being the first to ski from more than 8000 metres high Anapurna with his brother Davo. Since pioneers of that sport are and were from Jezersko, it is no surprise, that the most difficult alpinistic ski route in Slovenia is also in Jezersko. That is Fritsch-Lindenbach, which is graded as VII.

Davo and Drejc's late brother Luka was also an enthusiastic touring skier and participant in ski touring competitions. In 1996, he organised the first ski touring rally on Jezersko, which has been organised each year since then on the last January weekend (from 1997, it is also a memorial to Luka Karničar and Rado Markič, who passed away tragically) and is the ski mountaineering competition with the longest tradition in Slovenia.  Also now, many Jezersko ski mountaineers are successful at a professional and amateur level.

Jezersko is a village surrounded by hills and mountains, up to 2500 metres high. When winters are rich with snow, there is a lot of terrain for beginners and also for advance ski mountaineers. In wintertime, safe after heavy snowfall, there are some peaks under the forest border like Goli vrh, Mali vrh, Pristovški Storžič, Visoki vrh and Pečovnik. Longer and more demanding (more suitable for late winter and spring time, when the avalanche risk is lower), is the descent from Ledinski vrh. That tour can also be connected with a descent to Okrešelj and Belska kočna. For experienced ski moutaineerers, a beautiful, but also exposed option is skiing down the Grintovec roof. For alpinistic skiers there are some routes that demand good knowledge of technique, terrain and weather conditions. You can find more information about ski tours on link.

In winter, Jezersko is also interesting to ice climbers. Most of them are chasing Vikijeva sveča and Sinji slap. The most popular ravine which is adequate for winter climbing is Teranova.

If you would like to try ski mountaineering, you can borrow equipment in Park Jezersko and ask for some advice there or at our farm.

We are a member of Cross Country Ski Holidays from 2022. In 2023 we also became a member of "ski touring" family.

EVENT ORGANISATION

At the Šenk’s homestead, in addition to lodging, we also offer you a place to organize events for closed groups who wish to relax in unspoiled nature with accompaning activities offered by the farm environment under the mighty walls of the two thousand meters high peaks in Kamnik-Savinja Alps. We have two dining rooms in two buildings; one accommodates 25 people and the other 40 people. In the summer, benches for large numbers of people can be set up on the lawn under the very old trees.

We organize business meetings, family celebrations and civil wedding ceremonies. By prior arrangement, we organize the entire event at your request, or we only offer you renting a place with a culinary offer of our farm. We offer several types of domestic food with a focus on locally grown and indigenous local cuisine.

An old shepherd's dish masunjek (made of white, buckwheat or maize flour cooked in hot cream), Carinthian buckwheat porridge with sauerkraut or veal stew, roast lamb, meat of our Krškopolje pigs and bread baked in wood oven are delicacies that will satisfy all your wishes. For sweet treats, the menu includes rolled dumplings, sweet buns, strudel and various homemade pies. You can also stretch the event into the evening and spend the night on the hayloft or in the rooms and apartments of our renovated houses.

To spice things up you can also take part in peasant games and various other sports activities: table tennis or badminton, archery or grass volleyball.

In winter, we offer you a rental of equipment for cross-country skiing, as with a reasonable amount of snow our farm is surrounded by well-maintained tracks.

WEDDING AT THE FARM

Outdoor wedding in the shadow of majestic old trees, wedding reception under a tent or in a barn, accompanied by the taste of authentic local cuisine and the sounds of music in tune with nature – these are the details of a wedding at Šenk's homestead. We discuss all the details  with you and we want to make your wishes come true. Each wedding is a unique event for us. You can create your own wedding script or let our wedding planner Špela Ažman Svetina help you with creative ideas.
